Strength Training benefits for Weight Loss

We all realize the importance of maintaining a healthy weight. What we often fail to consider is that strength training benefits weight loss. The two best ways to lose weight are through proper nutrition and a planned exercise program. It seems that most of us have developed a real love affair with food. There are those that see food as fuel. The majority of us use food for comfort. It is our go to in times of stress. Food we buy in the store, at the restaurant, or the local fast food chain, is designed to make us want to eat more than we should. That is called marketing. Core Exercises:

What is the core? As I understand it, the ‘core’ includes all of the muscles in the middle section of the body, minus the arms and legs. The core is incredibly important for a large number of functional movements in our day to day lives in addition to posture. The core muscles are often ignored in our daily lives by those of us that sit behind a computer screen or behind the wheel of our vehicles for extended periods of time. Unfortunately, there is no single exercise that will strengthen all of the core muscles at the same time. Therefore, we must combine a series of strengthening exercises to address some of these most important muscles in the body. The exercises include: planks, side planks, dead bugs, v-sits, and bird dogs just to mention a few. Fortunately, core exercises can be modified to benefit all body types and strength levels and some studies show that static exercises for the core are more beneficial than dynamic. So the next time you have back pain, think about what you can be doing to strengthen the core to keep that pain away in the future.

Peach Recipes

The weather is still warm and the fresh fruit is still here to enjoy. These recipes give another way to enjoy peaches.


4 med. Peaches, peeled

2 Tblsp. lemon juice

2 Tblsp. honey

½ tsp. cracked black pepper

1-2 tsp. fresh snipped thyme

Blend 3 peaches, lemon juice and black pepper. Pour in honey and mix well.

Heat to a boil and simmer 10 to 15 mins. until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat. Cut up remaining peach and stir into sauce. Stir in thyme. Serve on grilled pork or chicken.

Brush on meat last 15 mins. of grilling.

Yields: 1 3/4 cups.


This is good for breakfast or a nice quick snack.

1 cup ice

2 peaches, peeled, pitted and chopped

1 container plain Greek yogurt (7 oz.)

½ -3/4 cups of tangerine or orange juice

3 Tblsp. honey

In blender combine peaches, yogurt, juice and blend well. Add ice and pour in honey. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.
